Exam portals set a minimum file size to ensure the image has enough detail for identity verification. A file that is too small suggests over-compression or very low resolution, which can cause the application to be rejected during manual review.
Each specification is attributed to its source (official portal, GATE IIT, NTA bulletin, etc.) with a verification level shown. Exam bodies update specifications between recruitment cycles, so always confirm against the current official notification before submitting.
Cover mode center-crops the image to fill the exact target dimensions. Fit mode scales the image to fit inside the frame and fills the remaining area with white. Use Cover for passport-style photos where the face should fill the frame, and Fit when you must not crop any part of the document.
