Your image is uploaded to our server and re-encoded with Sharp and MozJPEG at the quality you choose, then sent straight back. Server-side encoders produce noticeably smaller files than a browser canvas can. If the upload fails or the file is too large to send, the tool falls back to compressing it in your browser.
At quality settings of 70-85%, the difference is nearly imperceptible to the human eye while reducing file size by 40-70%. Only at very low quality settings (below 30%) will you notice significant visual degradation.
The compressor supports JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP images. PNG images are converted to JPEG or WebP during compression since PNG is a lossless format. You can choose your output format.
There's no hard limit, but very large images (over 50MB) may be slow to process depending on your device. For best performance, we recommend images under 20MB each.
