Background Remover for Amazon Sellers

Amazon's main image rule is the strictest and the most widely copied: a real product photo on a pure white background, filling at least 85% of the frame, at least 1000 pixels on one side so hover-to-zoom turns on. This page is now the working tool for that. Upload your shot, the AI lifts the product out, the background seeds to pure white, and the export lands at exactly 1600 x 1600 — comfortably past the zoom threshold and still a pure downscale from a normal camera file.

Pick your category

Amazon does not apply one rule to everything. Each option below loads the editor with a different export size and background.

1600 x 1600 is our default. Amazon's documented floor is 1000 px on at least one side; 1600 clears it and keeps zoom comfortable.

What we could not verify: Amazon publishes the authoritative version at sellercentral.amazon.com (help reference G1881) and sellercentral.amazon.in/imaging/help/requirements, both of which are behind a Seller Central login and were not readable from here on 2026-07-26. The numbers above come from an integration partner's mirror of those rules. If your Seller Central page disagrees, Seller Central wins.

Marketplace specs change and are frequently category-dependent. Treat this table as a starting point, follow the source link, and confirm against your own seller portal before a bulk upload.

What Amazon actually requires

Three Amazon main-image rules matter more than the rest. The background must be white — this is the one marketplace where "pure white" is genuinely the rule rather than an internet myth. The product must fill 85% of the frame, which is the rule most sellers miss because it is about composition rather than a file property, and it is why a correctly cut-out product sitting small in a large white square still underperforms. And the image needs at least 1000 pixels on height or width for hover-to-zoom to activate, which is a merchandising lever rather than a rejection line. Beyond those, the main image cannot show multiple views, cannot be blurry or cropped, and has category rules on top: no mannequins in apparel except stockings and socks, and footwear shot as a single shoe facing left at 45 degrees.

The Amazon miss that is not a rejection: 85% fill

Amazon's 85%-of-frame rule rarely gets a listing taken down, which is exactly why it is the most expensive one to ignore. A product that occupies 50% of a white square is technically compliant-looking, passes upload, and then converts worse than the competitor whose product fills the tile in search results, because the thumbnail is the same size for both and one of them shows a bigger product. Because this page locks the crop box to the preset shape, the fix is mechanical: drag the crop in until the product nearly touches the edges, leave a small margin, and export. The white field is regenerated by the tool at export time, so cropping tighter does not cost you background — it costs you empty space.

What this page will not do for you

This tool produces the main-image cutout and the white field. It does not fill the frame for you — you have to drag the crop, and the 85% rule is a judgement call the page can prompt but not measure. It never upscales, so a 900 px source will not become a 1600 px export; the page will say so and point at the free upscaler. It does not do model shoots, and Amazon's apparel rules require them in most categories. And it does not check the rest of Amazon's main-image policy, such as multiple views in one frame or category-specific angle rules, which are compositional and remain yours to get right.

Why Amazon sellers use this

  • Meet the Amazon pure-white (255,255,255) main-image requirement on every SKU
  • Process your whole catalogue free — no per-image credits like remove.bg
  • Download full-resolution cutouts (no low-res preview gate) so listing zoom stays crisp
  • Keep a transparent PNG of each product to reuse in A+ content, ads, and variations

Step by step

  1. 1Shoot the product on a contrasting surface so the AI separates it cleanly from the background
  2. 2After the cutout, set the background to white (#ffffff) and export as JPG for the main image
  3. 3Add a soft drop shadow so the product grounds naturally instead of floating on the white field
  4. 4Resize the export to at least 1000px on the longest side so Amazon enables hover-to-zoom

Amazon photo questions

Does Amazon really require a pure white background?

Yes, for the main image. This is the marketplace where the pure-white advice actually comes from, and it is correct here. It is worth knowing that it does not generalise: Flipkart explicitly rejects white for apparel and requires light grey with a soft shadow, and Snapdeal requires a light neutral rather than white for clothing. Do not run one white preset across every marketplace.

What is the 85% rule?

Amazon's documentation states the product must fill 85% of the image frame. It is a composition rule, not a file property, so no tool can apply it for you. The crop box on this page is what you use to satisfy it: pull it in tight around the product before exporting, leaving only a small margin.

What size should an Amazon main image be?

The documented floor is 1000 pixels or larger on at least height or width, with the longest side over 500 pixels, and nothing over 10000 pixels. Hitting 1000 px is what enables hover-to-zoom. The presets here export 1600 x 1600 or 2000 x 2000, both our own defaults above the floor.

Can I use the same cutout for my other listing images?

Yes, and you should. Export the white JPEG for the main image, then switch the background control to Transparent and the format to PNG and export again. Both come from the same cutout with no reprocessing, so you get a reusable transparent asset for A+ content, infographics and ads.

How do I make an Amazon white-background product photo for free?

Upload your product shot to the background remover, let the AI isolate the item, set the background to pure white (#ffffff), and export as JPG. The full-resolution result downloads instantly with no signup, no credits, and no watermark — ready for the main listing image.

Does this meet Amazon main-image rules?

Yes. Amazon requires the main image to be a real product photo on a pure-white background filling at least 85% of the frame, with no logos, text, or props. Setting the background to white here matches the colour rule; just make sure the product fills the frame and the export is at least 1000px on the longest side for zoom.

Is it really free, or do I pay per image like remove.bg?

It is genuinely free and unlimited at full resolution. remove.bg lets you preview a cutout free but charges credits to download the full-resolution or HD file. Here every download is the full-resolution image with no watermark and no account, so you can process a whole catalogue at no cost.

Can I keep a transparent version for my other listing images?

Yes. Keep the background on Transparent and export as PNG to get a clean cutout with an alpha channel. Reuse that same PNG across A+ content, infographics, ads, and product variations without re-cutting it each time.

Selling the same SKU in more than one place? The background rules genuinely differ between these platforms — do not reuse one export everywhere.
