Biometric standard (ISO/IEC 19794-5). Matte or semi-gloss paper. Face height 32-36mm from chin to top of head. Cut the photo to exactly 35 x 45 mm (1.4" x 1.8") — any deviation beyond 0.5 mm can trigger rejection.

A standard 4x6 inch (10x15 cm) print sheet holds 8 photos at this size — a cost-effective option at any photo kiosk or home printer. Leave a small margin between cuts.

The background must be Light grey background (uniform, no patterns) and completely uniform — any gradients, shadows, or patterns are grounds for rejection.

Germany follows strict biometric standards. Since 2025, German passport photos must be taken digitally at the Burgeramt (citizens office) or approved studios.

Germany driving licence photos are usually submitted at the licensing authority or vehicle registration office. Check whether they photograph applicants on-site or require you to supply a printed photo.

Photo recency requirement: Must be taken within the last 6 months.
